The Silk Route had long captured my imagination. I was drawn to its ancient architecture, the desert cities, the vivid colors, and the intricate arts that once connected China to Constantinople and Rome. The mystery, beauty, and history of this region fascinated me deeply. Still, I never truly imagined I would one day walk its storied paths.
That changed when we met Zulya Rajabova of Silk Road Treasure Tours, who—with thoughtful care and deep local knowledge—made it all possible. A native of Bukhara and an award-winning travel expert, Zulya has been creating immersive tours through her homeland of Uzbekistan for over twenty-five years. She and her incredible team don’t just know the country—they live there, love it, and open its heart to those who travel with them.
Thanks to their seamless planning, we experienced the very best of Uzbekistan without ever feeling rushed or detached. The journey unfolded gracefully—almost as if we had arrived by caravan, centuries ago. We marveled at historical wonders, encountered living traditions, and witnessed how artisans preserve cultural heritage simply by continuing to create. It was magical.
Our guide was exceptional. Like the phrase from the fairy tale—“Open Sesame”—he opened not just doors, but our hearts and minds. With kindness, knowledge, and pride, he remained with us throughout the journey. He answered our questions with care, helped us understand the context behind every site, and shared his culture with joy. Each day brought us closer to the soul of Uzbekistan, a young nation with deep roots and a vibrant future.
If anyone has doubts about traveling to Uzbekistan, let them go. This country is a treasure. The accommodations and meals were excellent, and the hospitality unmatched. Plov, the national dish, is just as delicious as promised—and when we saw T-shirts saying, “All You Need is Plov,” we smiled knowingly. Every meal was fresh, flavorful, and shared with laughter and conversation.
Some of the most memorable moments came through local connections. Uzbek families touring their own heritage, children eager to practice English, proud parents encouraging them—these encounters reminded us how travel can connect us across cultures.
As the tour came to a close, I felt a deep sense of gratitude—and a little reluctance to leave. What began as a long-held curiosity became something much more: a journey filled with beauty, learning, and heartfelt discovery. Thanks to Zulya Rajabova and her extraordinary team, I now know what lies beyond the words “Open Sesame.” It is Uzbekistan.
