Thimphu

As you move upwards from Paro, Thimphu is the next town which should be your camping ground. The official capital of Bhutan, Thimphu is a tourist's paradise. It is also the commercial capital where you see the huge impact of modernization. Apart from a plethora of official buildings in view, Thimphu has a hoard of other shopping centers and hotels. You can shop till you drop here – buying souvenirs, local food items or even clothes. You must buy the local shawls and blankets made out of yak wool.
If you consider the Clock Tower to be the commencement of your Thimphu exploration, then there are four tourist spots that you must travel to while in the capital city. These are Takin Preserve at Motithang, Trashi Chhoe Dzong, Buddha Point and the National Memorial Chorten. Stupas, Gompas and Chortens are religious prayer structures which you will cover across every 500 mts in the city. You must visit the Takin preserve to see the national animal of Bhutan while the Buddha point sitting on top of Kuensel Phodrang hill is a 51.5 metres bronze buddha statue which makes for a breathtaking view. You can also be a part of the Thimphu Tsetchu during this trip considering you are traveling to Bhutan during October (6-8). As you drive along Thimphu towards your next destination, it makes a lasting impression in your heart. The warmth and amicability of Bhutanese people during the festival season increases the GNH of the nation to manifolds.
