Shemakha

Shemakha is one of the most ancient cities of Azerbaijan, founded in the 5th century BC. It is located 135 km from Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.
Shemakha was one of the cultural, spiritual and trade centers of Azerbaijan throughout the centuries. It is very famous for its hot springs " Girkh Bulag" (Forty Springs), remarkable mosque and mausoleums. Shemakha is also well recognized for its wine making and carpet weaving.
