My homeland of Uzbekistan is rich in ancient Silk Road cities, fascinating cultures, captivating history, remarkable historical sites, and bustling Silk Road bazaars. Recently recommended by top world publications as Asia's must-see, unspoiled destination means it's heating up as the go-to place!
For over 30 years, my team of guides, anthropologists and historians and I have been welcoming intrepid travelers, historians, educators and those in the know from all walks of life and from around the globe. Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva and all the fascinating locations along the Silk Road routes offer cultural discovery, a chance to visit a little known part of the world, and even luxury travel. For the last couple of years we've been overwhelmed by the hundreds of travelers excited for our addition of adventure travel experiences! The countries of Central Asia offer pristine landscapes both easily accessible and remote. Uzbekistan has trails for hiking, biking, and horseback trekking, fabulous locations for photography and even canyons and rivers for rafting. There are alpine lakes, mountains and foothills in Amirsoy, Beldersay and Chymgan; the Amudaryo and Syr Darya rivers; a camel ride or day out safari in the Kyzylkum Desert, or a night under the stars at a nomadic yurt camp. Uzbekistan is now on the rtravel adar as a nature paradise for bird watchers, too!
I've just returned from Uzbekistan having escorted several of our Silk Road Treasure Tours guests around Uzbekistan and Central Asia. One of the most exciting tours was to the Amirsoy Mountains where guests stayed at the Amirsoy Mountain Resort. It's a super destination in both winter and summer. Just 90 minutes from Tashkent, it's nestled in the Chaktal spur of the Tian Shan Mountains, and all rooms face snow capped peaks where the sun rises and sets with breathtaking colors. Guests can go for a day trip, or stay longer. The Silk Road Treasure Tours team secures VIP access to the brand new cable cars that take you up the mountain. It's a ski-in/ski-out resort and family friendly. The view is spectacular, beckoning guests to grab a snack or lunch and start their hikes while others take to the mountain bikes or roam with cameras.
Amirsoy has a number of restaurants, bars and terraces to choose from. At the Sazanchik restaurant we enjoyed a meal of delicious local fish and wine, and a variety of freshly made salads. The terrace at the 2290 restaurant is perfect for relaxing and enjoying the beauty of the surroundings, The nearby Chinara is a spectacular indoor/outdoor restaurant for local and European fare. It's also the location of ancient petroglyphs, and a lovely stream runs through the area past 500 year old Plantanus trees. Silk Road Treasure Tours' Condé Nast award winning experts are incredibly connected locally - we know the vintners, honey producers, and cheese makers in the mountain villages here. Food is always fresh and local.
We planned visits to a horse farm to learn about Uzbekistan horses, went horseback riding, and then had sunset cocktails in the local village. There were ATV rides along the village roads, building up an appetite for wine and cheese tastings, and a visit with local hosts for freshly baked bread and mountain honey. Folks in Uzbekistan are incredibly hospitable - they believe that all visitors are honored guests. We were invited into homes and working farms, and introduced to family members and neighbors. Local produce and specialties were purchased for the next day's picnics from the farmer's market.
We stopped in at a local school to meet up with students. Not only do they all speak a number of different Central Asia languages: Uzbek, Kazakh and Tajik, but all are learning English (and doing amazingly well, too!).
Uzbekistan's wonderful natural wonders, mountains, forests, waterfall, caves and natural sanctuaries are the highlights of your hiking and adventure travel.
The Amirsoy and Beldersay mountains in winter have fabulous powder snow and travelers come to enjoy the skiing and snowboarding. One of the largest ski resorts in Central Asia, it boasts a hammam and spa to take the chill off!. Currently we're working with local authorities to organize cultural events, festivals and performances to add to the schedule of local offerings throughout the year.
Plan your trip today to Uzbekistan and Central Asia, and make sure to include the natural wonders of the region. Our Silk Road Treasure Tours experts will carefully craft your special Silk Road journey and will be there from start to finish to make sure you enjoy the trip of a lifetime.

"Our day trip out to Chymgan was fantastic! What a perfect, easy getaway to nature and rural landscapes. We wish we had more time to stay longer."
