At The New York Times Travel Show, representatives from Silk Road Treasure Tours, which specializes in trips to Uzbekistan, dressed in traditional clothing.
Bargain with the Uzbeks. At the Silk Road Treasure Tours booth, Zulya Rajabova Moss advised me never to accept the initial price given by a hotel in Uzbekistan, the country her company specializes in. “It’s not set up like in the U.S.,” said Ms. Rajabova Moss, the company president. “You have to negotiate all the time.” Her suggested tactics: stress that you are on a budget, and say you’d be happy with a smaller room if it means a lower price. |
